About Celesa.

Celesa is a private dictation app for Mac, made by a small independent team.

Why it exists

Dictation apps make writing faster, but most of them send every word to someone else’s server. Celesa was built to do the same job with everything kept on your Mac, and to write the way you actually write.

Why the name

A celesta is a keyboard instrument that sounds like soft bells. It’s the twinkle in Tchaikovsky’s Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, and its name comes from the Italian celeste, meaning heavenly. Celesa is the celesta with the T taken out, because with Celesa you don’t type anymore.

What we believe

  • Your voice belongs on your device.
  • Tools should be named and open about how they work, so we name the models we use.
  • Software should be calm: no accounts, no nagging, no tracking.
